  • Genocide Olympics is a term used by activists such as actor Mia Farrow to describe the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, because of the country's seeming disregard to the happenings in Darfur and China's support for the Sudanese government. After the "Genocide Olympics" controversy reached critical mass worldwide in 2007, Beijing reversed its initial opposition of sanctions against the Sudan by the United Nations.

The issues re-emerged in March 2008, however, when the European Union threatened to boycott the games because of a recent incident in which around 100 people were allegedly killed during a Tibetan protest against Chinese rule.
