The study of genealogy has been improved by using DNA analysis to provide evidence for genetic relationships between individuals. Traditional genealogy uses historical documents as ancestral evidence, but since older documents are increasingly unreliable and difficult to find, genetic genealogy allows for a more reliable level of scientific proof.

Genetic Genealogical Organizations
Various organizations have sprung up worldwide which offer genetic genealogy testing for individuals. After signing up, participants will be mailed a kit with which to take a DNA sample. The DNA sample is mailed back to the organization, which then analyzes the DNA and compares it against other samples. The participant is provided with a certificate that details genetic genealogy similarities and inferred historical relationships. The organization, in turn, uses this information to conduct broad-scale research on family histories and human migratory patterns. -
