According to Webster's Dictionary, a "geek" is a slang word for "a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual." In modern times, though, the meaning of "geek" has become more broad, and now includes people who aren't necessarily anti-social and only interested in technology, but instead who are just intensely devoted to a specific topic - such as science fiction, comic books, movies, music, art, history, etc.
