Gary Brown is the former Detroit Deputy Police Chief and head of Internal Affairs who was fired by the mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick in May 2003. Brown and another fired police officer filed a lawsuit alleging that they were fired for getting too close to revealing details of an extramarital affair between the mayor and his chief of staff.
During this trial, evidence arose that Mayor Kilpatrick gave false testimony regarding Brown's removal from his position. The evidence also revealed details that confirmed Mayor Kilpatrick's affair, which created a scandal that ultimately led to the mayor's trial and indictment.
