  • Garth Brooks is the quintessential modern American country western singer, songwriter and performer and is one of the biggest selling solo artists of all time, having sold over 115 million albums in the Unites States alone. As one of the first country performers to incorporate elements of Pop into the traditional country formula, Brooks dominated the 1990s music scene, producing a number of best-selling singles, albums and tours and winning countless awards. Although Brooks announced that he was officially retiring from recording and performing in 2001, he has continued to sell millions of albums each year.

    In 1999, as a way to promote a proposed movie role, Brooks briefly took on the persona of Chris Gaines - a fictional Rock star with a conflicted life. After releasing a full-length album called Garth Brooks in ... The Life of Chris Gaines and performing in character on Saturday Night Live, Brooks soon found out that his alter-ego was not as popular as his real life persona and the character was eventually retired.
