Major League Baseball third baseman Garrett Atkins currently plays for the Colorado Rockies. Originally drafted by the New York Mets in 1997, he chose to attend UCLA instead. He was then drafted by the Rockies in 2000.
On November 11, 2008, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported that the Rockies were exploring trade options involving Atkins. Reportedly the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Minnesota Twins are interested in acquiring his services. Garrett Bernard Atkins was born in Orange, California on August 3, 2003. He would attend High school in Irvine, California at University High School. He would establish himself as a premiere high school prospect and would garner the attention of Major League Baseball clubs. After graduating, Atkins would be drafted by the New York Mets in the tenth round of the 1997 Major League Baseball draft. He would elect instead to attend college at the University of California, Los Angeles. Pro Career
Atkins was selected in the fifth round of the 2000 Major League baseball draft by the the Colorado Rockies.He would make his Major League Baseball Debut on August 3, 2003 with the Colorado Rockies. In 2005, he would establish himself as an everyday player hitting .287 with 13 homeruns. In 2006, he would hit .329 with 29 homeruns.
