  • Officially "the Republic of The Gambia" and commonly referred to as simply "Gambia," The Gambia is the smallest country on the African mainland and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the west and by Senegal on all other sides.

In March 2009 civil rights group Amnesty International reported that up to 1,000 Gambians were taken captive by 'witch doctors' from neighboring Guinea. According the local reports, the witch doctors were invited to Gambia by President Yahya Jammeh to go on a witch hunt. He believed that the death of his aunt was caused by witchcraft.CNN: Rights group: 1,000 seized ... (March 18, 2009)
