Gallbladder surgery is usually performed to remove the gallbladder if it's inflamed, if gallstones are causing problems, or for cancer-related reasons. The surgical procedure is called a Cholecystectomy. The surgical procedure taken to remove the gallbladder could either be through traditional abdominal surgery where the surgeon makes an opening several inches in length or could be performed as a Laparoscopic surgery which requires only a few small incisions.
Background
During this procedure to remove the gall bladder, the surgeon will make a small incision in order to remove the gall bladder. During this surgical operation the patient will be on anesthesia and will be unconscious and will not be feeling any pain. This surgical procedure takes about an hour and recovery takes a few days.
