  • Career Overview

Band members Dean Wareham, Damon Krukowski and Naomi Yang had met in high school, and formed Galaxie 500 while attending Harvard University. They recorded a demo together, called Shimmy Disc, and used it to get a record deal with the small, independent Aurora label.

Their second album, the first of two released on Rough Trade Records, was On Fire, generally considered the most significant of the band's three recordings. This Is Our Music followed in 1991, and the band embarked on a large-scale American tour before breaking up that same year.

Wareham went on to record with the band Luna before they, in turn, broke up in 2005. He married Luna bandmate Britta Phillips in 2007.
