Brief Background
Galadriel is a fictional character from Middle-earth. She is the mother-in-law of Elrond and the grandmother of Arwen, who was played by Liv Tyler in Peter Jackson's film version.
She meets the Fellowship after they leave Moria. Known to have the gift of clairvoyance and mind reading, she advises Frodo Baggins to be wary of one member of the Fellowship who will betray him; the audience later finds out that the betrayer is Boromir.
Galadriel herself is tested by the One Ring when Frodo offers it to her, but she passes the test and does not take it. She gives Frodo the Light of Earendil and sends him forward on the journey with fresh supplies.
