Jockey Gabriel Saez first began riding in Panama in 2004 where he was named Panama's leading apprentice jockey for 2005.
Saez moved to the United States in 2005 and is a regular jockey for trainer Larry Jones, the trainer of the ill-fated filly Eight Belles.
Saez was riding Eight Belles in the Kentucky Derby on May 3, 2008 when she broke both of her front ankles.
PETA is calling for an investigation and wants Saez to be suspended until the investigation is complete. PETA believes that Eight Belles was injured prior to crossing the finish line and that Saez may have known about the injury.
