Gabriel Gonzaga made his MMA debut on April 4, 2003 in Santos, Brazil winning that fight in the first round. He began his career as a part of Chute Box Academy in Brazil. As for now he trains at Team Link and fights out of Ludlow, Massachusetts. Gonzaga is very skilled on the ground and has a black belt in BJJ however he has knockout power in his punches and kicks from a Muay Thai background. Fighting for the Ultimate Fighting Championship he sports a professional record of 11 wins and 4 losses, 6 wins by submission and 5 via KO. He is considered to be part of the next generation of fighters, referring to fighters who are true mixed martial artists and will be around for years to come. He is a fun fighter to watch as he brings the fight to his opponent finishing all of his fights. He has handled many fighters with ease, however his losses are usually coming from high ranked fighters. He has lost to Randy Couture via TKO and Farbrico Werdum twice by TKO. His most recent loss to Shane Carwin at UFC 96 was by way of KO where Gonzaga seemed to be winning the fight early on but the right hand of Carwin was too much for Gonzaga, or anyman, to handle. His most notable win was against Pride superstar Mirko Filipovic at UFC 70 where he knocked out Mirko with a vicious right roundhouse kick to the head earning him a shot at the HeavyWeight belt against Randy Couture. Gabriel Gonzaga Biggest Fight
The biggest fight that Gonzaga has taken part in was his shot at the UFC Heavy Weight belt against Randy Couture. His chance came on August 25, 2007 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Gonzaga had, on paper a great chance coming into this fight. But a takedown in round one by Couture with an unintentional head clash broke and cut the nose of Gabriel Gonzaga making it very hard for him to breath. After that point Gonzaga's chances of winning slipped away as Couture continued to dominate Gonzaga in the clinch. At one point Gonzaga said he couldn't see and the fight was momentarily stopped, then Gonzaga was forced to fight or give up by referee Herb Dean. The unfortunate headbutt during the takedown caused all the momentum to go the way of Couture. Gonzaga's cardio quickly ran out however he did land some good punches and kicks on Couture but Couture was able to impose his will on Gonzaga and finish Gonzaga by TKO in the third round. http://www.mmatko.com/randy-couture-vs-gabriel-gonzaga-ufc-74-fight-video/
