Gabourey Sidibe (pronounced SIH-deh-bay), known as Gabby, is a film actress who made her debut in the 2009 film Precious. The film won the Sundance Film Festial Grand Jury award. In Precious, Sidibe stars as Claireece "Precious" Jones, an abused, illiterate 16-year-old growing up in Harlem who is given hope when she starts attending an alternative school.
Sidibe will appear in the upcoming movie Yelling to the Sky with Don Cheadle. She has been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award (2010) as Best Female Lead for her role in Precious. She won the Rising Star Award and the Outstanding New Talent award from the Hollywood Film Awards and the Satellite Awards, respectively. -
