G. Love & Special Sauce is an alternative hip-hop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania which formed in 1992. They are known for their "sloppy," "laid-back" blues sound, that incorporates hip-hop rhythm and lyrics.
Upon releasing their self-titled debut album in 1994, the groups single "Cold Beverage" nearly hit gold thanks to heavy rotation on MTV. Trying to capitalize on the single's success the group started touring and eventually wound up on the Horizons Of Rock Developing Everywhere (H.O.R.D.E) tour.
In 1995 they released their follow up album Coast to Coast Motel. Although falling shorter in sales than the debut album, critics claim it is the strongest of the two releases. The tour that followed nearly caused the bands demise due to arguing about finances. The trio decided to take a break and all three worked on solo projects.
In 1997, G. Love & Special Sauce were back together again and working on their third album Yeah It's That Easy. This album consisted of several collaborations including the All Fellas Band, King's Court and Dr. John. This album was a return to their original blues sound and fared much better than the previous release.
Following a world tour to support Yeah It's That Easy. , the group returned to Philadelphia in 1999 to record Philadelphonic, which was followed by the 2001 release of Electric Mile. 2004 saw the release of The Hustle, the first album released with Brushfire Records.
The groups current album Lemonade was released in 2006 and features collaborations with Marc Broussard, Tristan Prettyman, Blackalicious and others. The first single is titled "Hot Cookin.'"
