Founded in 1826, Furman University is the oldest and largest private institution in South Carolina. Furman moved three times in its early years before being designated as Furman University and establishing itself in Greenville in 1850.Furman U: About

In 1961, Furman relocated to its current 750-acre campus (with a 40-acre lake) on the outskirts of Greenville.
