In this video, Mahalo dance expert Brice "Professor Lock" shows you how to do the Volkswagen combination while locking.
Step-by-Step Instructions
This locking move gets its name from the Volkswagen car because it looks like you are driving a car while you do it. The difference is that you add your own bounce, style and flavor into the mix. So have fun with this one, master the basic movements then go crazy.
1. For the starting position, you will want to stand up straight while your upper body looks like you're driving a car.Your left hand will be straight out in front of you like you are holding on to an imaginary steering wheel.
Your right hand will be slightly out to the side like you are reaching down for the imaginary stick shift.
2. Next, twist your upper body to the right as you bend your knees to the left.
As you do this, pull back with your right hand on your imaginary stick shift.
3. Pop up from that position and immediately lift your right leg up in the air so that your thigh is parallel to the floor and your knee forms a right angle.Your right hand can remain back and your left arm can bend slightly in towards your chest.
4. A half a count later, lower your right leg and place your heel on the floor like you are about to press on the gas pedal.From here, you can start over and repeat as often as you need so that all motions flow together and you get a good rhythm down.
