  • Fugazi was a punk rock band from Washington DC known as much for their community activism and strident adherence to a DIY business ethos as their music.

The band was formed in 1987, fronted by guitarist and vocalist Ian MacKaye, co-founder of indie label Dischord Records. Throughout its history, the band has maintained a policy of "affordable access" to their work by keeping record and ticket prices low. The band never charged more than $5 for tickets to their shows, which were always all-ages.

In addition to their record releases, the band was the subject of documentary filmmaker Jem Cohen's Instrument.

The band is on an indefinite hiatus.
