Fruit Compote

Fruit compote is a dish made of fresh or dried fruits that are cooked in a sugar syrup.

A fruit compote is typically simmered with flavor extracts and spices such as vanilla, lemon or orange peel, cinnamon or cloves. There may also be the addition of nuts, coconut and alcohol such as rum or kirsch.

Compote, the Beverage?

The word compote also refers to a traditional Eastern European drink made with dried fruits such as apricots, raisins or prunes, that are boiled with sugar water and spices and then allowed to cool.
