Frou Frou

Frou Frou is an electronic/pop duo from England. The group is comprised of Imogen Heap and Guys Sigsworth. The duo had first worked together on the single "Getting Scared" from Heap’s solo record, "iMEGAPHONE" back in 1998. After Heap finished her album's promotion, she was looking for another project and the duo decided to join together to form Frou Frou. The name Frou Frou came from when Francophile Sigsworth saw a passage in a Baudelaire poem which described the sound of burlesque dancer’s skirts swirling around their legs as they danced.

Sigsworth was known as an accomplished producer and writer having worked with Bjork and Madonna. Both took their talents, Heap with her breathy voice and Sigsworth with his ability to achieve unique sounds for Heap’s voice, and together created their only album, "Details". Their solo effort was released in 2002 by MCA Records.

Details would have a delayed success. After the group finished their promotional tours and appearance, the public began to take more of a notice of the group. This could be partially due to the fact that the song, "Let Go", was featured on the Grammy award winning Garden State soundtrack. Let Go and other songs from Details have appeared in television shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and Six Feet Under.http://www.tvshowsongs.com/sixfeetundermusicseason2.html

Career

Since Frou Frou’s disbandment, both Heap and Sigsworth have continued on in the music industry. Heap released her sophomore album, Speak for Yourself on November 1, 2005 and it garnished the hit single, "Hide & Seek" that was featured on the television show, The O.C.

Guy Sigsworth continues as a writer and producer has since worked with artists such as Britney Spears, Alanis Morissette and Kate Havnevik. For Spears, Sigsworth produced her 2004 hit "Everytime".http://atrl.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56760&page=3

Quotes

"In the Folies Bergeres when the women were dancing 'frou frou' was meant to be the sound of the swishing skirt," explains Guy. "There's meant to be a poem of Baudelaire's where he'd taken opium and was tripping out on the skirts swishing and getting delirious, and there's this old French song called Frou Frou which is the sound that drives men mad. And I suppose when I was getting this together with Imogen, not just because she's a girl, but I was conscious of there being a kind of femininity to things. The delirious guy looking at the women is probably like I am, listening to them singing down the microphone."http://www.myspace.com/froufrou
