Fritters are made by battering and deep-frying meat, fish, fruit or vegetables.
Versatile Dish
Fritters are any food covered in batter and deep fried. The name fritter is derived from the latin word for frying, which is frictura. They can be served in several ways. It can be a side dish, a dessert or even as a main course. In Asian countries, fritters are made with bananas, yams and vegetables and are commonly used as a side dish to the main meal. In Japan, a variation of the dish is called Tempura, and is a main course prepared using Shrimp and vegetables. In the America crab cakes, Onion Rings, and Apple Fritters are variations. In England, fritters are served using vegetables with Fish and Chips. For an extensive look at the varieties possible, take a look at Mahalo's page How to Deep Fry Anything.
