Friskies History
The Friskies brand was originally launched by the Carnation Company in 1930 as a dry dog food.http://www.purina.co.uk/Home/About+Purina/Our+Company/Our+History.htm In 1956, the Carnation Company launched a version of Friskies specially formulated for cats and test marketed it in the West Coast of the United States.http://nestlepurinacareers.com/AboutNestle/History.aspx To differentiate between its dry dog food and dry cat food labels, the feline version was named "Little Friskies."
During the 1960s the Friskies brand became more solidified as a cat product and was dropped from usage in dog foods by the Carnation Company. In 1985 the Carnation Company was purchased by Nestle and its pet food products were placed under their pet care division, renaming it the Friskies PetCare Company. In 2001, Nestle purchased the Ralston Purina Company, renaming its pet care divison once more, to its current Nestle Purina PetCare Company.http://nestlepurinacareers.com/AboutNestle/History.aspx
