The French Open, or in French, “Les Internationaux de France de Roland Garros or Tournoi de Roland-Garros," is one of the major tennis tournaments of the world. It is widely known as one of the most prestigious Grand Slams. It usually held yearly, between late May and early June. This grand slam consists with four different events; here are these with current champions: Men's Singles--Roger Federer. Women's Singles--Svetlana Kuznetsova. Men's Doubles--Lukáš Dlouhý and Leander Paes. Women's Doubles--Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual Mixed Doubles--Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan
Background
The French open was first held on the courts of Stade Français in Paris in 1891. After six years, they added women’s single. Then the French Tennis Federation thought to open the competition to the best foreign players. The International tournament was held in 1925 at Stade Français and Racing Club de France. In 1928, the French Open International was moved to Roland-Garros stadium. After World War 2, the tournament grew rapidly. It is currently one of the four grand slams of tennis.
