FreezeCrowd is an interactive social networking website set to launch in December 2010 for college students and alumni. The site connects people by in group photos interactively through a patent pending process, a unique "Freeze" button, and "Crowd Control" button. The original idea was envisioned in 1999 by Internet entrepreneur Eric Leebow who believed he could connect the people in his college freshman photo book in 3s to the Internet with a device that transported the people and photos to the Web. The origin of the name FreezeCrowd is a play on words, which was derived from "3s a Crowd" and which was later simplified to FreezeCrowd with the idea to "freeze" people's memories in a crowded photo of people. The principle of the site works on the premise of the wisdom of the crowd, as the more people one has in a crowded photo, the more people one can connect with. The interactivity of the site is unique in the layout and design, and people are encouraged to gather in crowded group photos to connect with like minded people. Different from previous social networking sites that encouraged groupings of people in online groups, the photos serve as groups to connect the people.
