Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is the first Saturday in May, when participating comic book shops in North America give away comic books. Sponsored by book publishers and the independent book shops (each copy costs the book store 20 cents), the FCBD is intended to encourage reading and, of course, buying comic books in independent book stores.Wired: Free Comic Book Day Recruits Wolverine, Green Lantern (May 1, 2009)
