Fredi Gonzalez is the manager of Major League Baseball's Florida Marlins. Gonzalez spent four years as a coach with the Atlanta Braves before replacing Joe Girardi as Marlins manager.
On February 17, 2009, Gonzalez and the Marlins agreed to a two-year contract that will keep Gonzalez with the team through 2011. The financial details of the deal were not immediately announced.MLB.com: Marlins sign Gonzalez through 2011
Brief Biography
Gonzalez was raised in Miami and graduated from Southridge High School in 1982. He was drafted right out of high school, selected in the 1982 MLB draft by the New York Yankees. He played with their minor league teams for several seasons, but never made it to the MLB.
In 1990, Gonzalez became the manager of the Miami Miracle in the Florida State League. After just over a season with the Miracle, he took over the Erie team of the New York-Penn League in 1992, becoming the first minor league manager in Marlins franchise history. Gonzalez then moved to High Desert in 1993 and Brevard County in 1994. He took in Portland in 1997, serving as manager of the team for one season before moving to Charlotte of the AAA International League in 1998.
