Freddie Highmore is an English film and television actor who came into prominence with roles in Finding Neverland and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Background
Alfred Thomas Highmore was born in London, England on February 14, 1992. His mother, Sue Latimer, is a talent agent for clients including Daniel Radcliffe. His father, Edward Highmore, is also an actor. He has a younger brother named Albert who was born in 1995. The family resides in North London suburb Highgate. Highmore currently attends Highgate School.
Early Career
At the age of seven, Highmore had small parts on television. His major breakthrough came in 2004 for his role in Finding Neverland, which starred Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. His role in this movie earned him several awards and nominations. His wins include the Young Artist Awards for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Ensemble Cast and a Satellite Award for Outstanding New Talent.
Major Roles
In 2005, Highmore was personally recommended for the part of Charlie Bucket in Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, from Finding Neverland co star Johnny Depp. Depp was impressed by Highmore's talent. Highmore starred in the drama August Rush. He played a boy with extraordinary musical talents in search of his birth parents. The movie also starred Keri Russell, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Robin Williams.
Other Work
Highmore has also starred in The Golden Compass with Nicole Kidman and The Spiderwick Chronicles. He will also provide the voice of Astro Boy in the upcoming film Astro Boy which is expected to be released in 2009.
