His father, Edward Highmore, is also an actor. He has a younger brother named Albert who was born in 1995. The family resides in North London suburb Highgate. Highmore currently attends Highgate School.

    At the age of seven, Highmore had small parts on television. His major breakthrough came in 2004 for his role in Finding Neverland, which starred Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. His role in this movie earned him several awards and nominations. His wins include the Young Artist Awards for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Ensemble Cast and a Satellite Award for Outstanding New Talent.
