History
Freda Payne began her career in entertainment singing jingles for Detroit radio stations at the age of 13. She was offered record contracts by Berry Gordy of Motown Records and jazz legend Duke Ellington, but had to decline because her mother wanted her to complete her education. After she completed school, shared her first stage with Tony Award winner Pearl Bailey. Her second album made her a mainstream success due to her single "Band of Gold."My Space: Freda PayneSingles
