  • Franz Schubert was an Austrian composer during the late Classical and early Romantic period. He composed over 600 songs, as well as hundreds of symphonies, sonatas, string quartets, and operas.
  • Life

    The young Franz Schubert was taught by Antonio Salieri. While he was appreciated among his peers and colleagues, Schubert was never permanently employed during his lifetime and relied on the support of friends and family. He gave just one public concert of his own works. After his death from syphilis at the age of 31, interest in his work increased.
