Formation
The members played in various bands during the 1990s including The Karelia, Yummy Fur and Embryo. Kapranos and Thomson, who had played together in Yummy Fur, teamed up to write songs together. Around the same time Kapranos taught his friend Bob Hardy how to play bass guitar. Kapranos then met guitarist Nick McCarthy in 2001 who had recently returned to Scotland after studying jazz bass in Germany.allmusic: Franz Ferdinand Biography
