Frank Marshall Davis was an African-American poet and journalist who was investigated by the FBI and House Un-American Activities Committee because of his "social realist" poetry and alleged links to the communist party, although no charges were ever filed. President Barack Obama wrote about Frank in his memoir, Dreams From My Father," referring to him as his grandfather's friend who offered him ethnic advice. As a result, Obama's opponents launched a vigorous guilt-by-association campaign against the Davis-Obama relationship. BlackPast: Davis, Frank Marshall
