Frank Hsieh

  • Frank Hsieh is the former chairman of the DPP in political organization in Taiwan. Hsieh represented the incumbent Democratic Progressive Party in the 2008 presidential election, and lost to challenger Ma Ying-jeou of the Kuomintang party. The defeat marked the end of eight years of DPP political dominance.
  • Resignation

    Hsieh stated prior to the 2008 election that he would retire from politics if he lost. Hsieh won 41.55% of the vote to Ying-jeou's 58.45%, forcing Hsieh to keep his promise, and leave his post as chairman.The China Post: Frank Hsieh to step down as DPP chairman tomorrow (March 25, 2008) Following his resignation Tsai Ing-wen was nominated to take his place.
