British politician, writer, scientist and philosopher Francis Bacon helped to revolutionize the the field of science by popularizing the scientific method of questioning, formulating theories and then performing experimental tests to prove or disprove these theories. Thanks to Bacon, the previous medieval tradition of basing philosophies on religious belief or superstition was largely replaced by the pursuit of knowledge through observation, experimentation and logic.
