Frances Bean Cobain is the daughter of musicians Kurt Cobain, former frontman for the group Nirvana, and Courtney Love, former lead singer for the group Hole.
She was named after musician Frances McKee of The Vaselines. Her godparents are Michael Stipe and Drew Barrymore. She was thrust into the spotlight at just 18 months old when her father committed suicide on April 8, 1994. Her mother has struggled with anger management and drug addiction issues.
In fact, it was famously suggested that while Love was pregnant with Frances that Love was still using heroin. This has caused there to be much scrutiny on the raising of Frances. At several times during her life, she has been temporarily cared for by her paternal grandmother.

Frances has stated a desire to follow in the professional footsteps of her famous parents. Meanwhile, she has continued to endure her mother's struggles. In December of 2009, Love was prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with Frances as a result of a restraining order issued at the request of Wendy O'Connor, Kurt's mother. This followed O'Connor and Kurt's sister, Kimberly Cobain, being granted temporary co-guardianship of Frances.
