Not only will you discover the enemy super-weapon known as the Dreadnaught in this mission, you'll have to engage it in battle. The best you can hope for is to escape with your life, and even that's no easy feat. After the initial battle at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, when you encounter the dreaded metal monster, you'll have to pursue it across the landscape, battle waves of enemy troops the whole time. The end of the mission will come when a friendly troops transport arrives to pick you up, and fly you toward the Pacifian Genetic Research Base.
As soon as you begin this mission, you'll get a shield upgrade, adding extra health. Use it to fight enemies as you move along the tunnels. Raise the ground beneath the fan here to destroy it, and continue on. Back outside, begin the assault of the Golden Gate Bridge. After taking out as many enemies as you can, knock down the pillar on the right side of the area. There's a rocket launcher in the partially buried pipe on the left, if you need a good weapon. You can raise pillar with a spike grenade, making it easier to reach the top. Get up to the top of the bank, fighting more enemies there. Get to cover quickly, to avoid the two machine gun turrets ahead. You'll need to take these out, probably more than once, since enemies will continue to use them.
You need to destroy the four devices attached to the pillars of the bridge. You can use spike grenades for this, or the weapon called the lodestone, which you'll find on the platform up ahead on the right. Each time you destroy a device, more enemies will appear. Try to cut them off before they get to the machine gun turrets. You can enter the turrets yourself, and use them against the enemies. Once you've destroyed the four devices, get out from underneath the bridge before it's destroyed.
After the ensuing cut-scene, make your way through the caves, taking out enemies as you go. When you get outside, you'll see an enormous enemy machine. Fight your way toward it, and, when it comes to a stop, get on board, through the opening at the back of the thing's foot. Battle the enemies inside, grabbing the shotgun here if you want. Eventually, you'll be prompted to hop out, and meet up with a group of friendlies. Soon enough you'll be on the move again, eventually getting back on board the metal monster. Here you need to defend your ally long enough for him to extract some much-needed data. Eventually, an evac craft will arrive. Get to it to end the mission.
