Story

Fracture is set in the distant future. Earth has been devastated by the dramatic effects of global warming and the country that was formerly known as the United States of America has been literally divided into two opposing sections as a result of a great flood. The eastern territories have been renamed as the Atlantic Alliance and the western ones have been dubbed the Republic of Pacifica. In an attempt to come up with a solution to the large number of problems facing the world, each side develops their own ideas, but end up being unable to find common ground. The West wants to focus on genetics in order to help people adapt while the East strongly feels that cybernetics would be more effective. Their disagreement on how to approach the situation leads to an all-out war. The game takes place from the viewpoint of an Atlantic Alliance soldier named Mason Briggs.
Gameplay

The game’s most prominent feature is the ability to manipulate the terrain using a variety of explosives and weaponry. Among other things, players can build their own cover, expose enemies from behind theirs by elevating the section of the ground they’re standing on and sink different areas to gain the upper ground advantage.
