Fosamax (Alendronate)

Fosamax is a popular brand of Alendronate. Alendronate is a bisphosphonate drug used to prevent or treat Osteoporosis which is a common problem among women after menopause. Bisphosphonates work by decreasing the activity of cells which break down bones. By slowing bone loss it helps reduce the risk of fractures.

1. Increases bone mineral density (BMD)
2. Dosage forms: Solution 70mg/75ml and Tablets 5mg, 10mg, 35mg, 40mg, and 70mg
3. Also used to treat Paget's Disease
4. Some side effects include: Stomach pain, constipation, gas or nausea
5. Allergic reaction: rash, dizziness, swelling, trouble breathing
6. Available only through prescription
7. Take tablets with a full glass of water
