The Fort Worth Animal Shelter was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show about puppy mills. Animal Shelters across the country are overcrowded with abandoned pets, and Fort Worth is no exception. For every fifty dogs that are abandoned at the shelter, four are adopted, states city animal control director, Keane Menefee. The remaining dogs are euthanized at a rate of forty plus animals per day or 14,000-17,000 animals yearly. In 2008, the Fort Worth shelter plans to spay and neuter all animals adopted from them at no cost to the adoptive family.
