  • Thirteen people were killed and 31 were wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, on November 5, 2009.     The fort's website listed the fort as "closed," with an emergency situation. Fort Hood is the nation's largest U.S. Army installation. It is located near Killeen, Texas. Fort Hood has incurred the most casualties of the American bases during the Iraq War.

  • Memorial Service

  • Veterans Day Memorial

    On Veterans Day, November 11, a special tribute was given to the marching band and troops of the First Cavalry Division from Fort Hood.     • Michelle Obama held a speech at George Washington University on Veterans Day, in which she explicitly commented on the Fort Hood victims.   • Investigation

    Immediately after the shooting an investigation by both FBI and army was started. One of the subjects of investigation was a possible link between shooter Hasan and militants at a mosque in Virginia. There were no direct evidence to support this, a federal law enforcement official said.
