Early Life
Forrest Bird was born in Stoughton, Massachusetts. From his youth he took an interest in being a pilot and was able to fly on his own by the age of fourteen. He joined the United States Army Air Corps in 1941 and was appointed as an air training officer during World War II.
Inventor
After the war, he began his career as an inventor and launched the Bird Universal Medical Respirator in 1955, which was soon introduced into hospitals. He subsequently devised a ventilator for infants called the Babybird.
