• Brief Background and Synopsis

  This cult 1980s teen film starring Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer was based on events that took place in 1979 in conservative Elmore City, Oklahoma. In the film, Ren McCormack (Bacon) moves from the big city to a small town and finds, to his dismay, that dancing is banned. He soon starts falling for a girl, Ariel Moore (Lori Singer), who, as fate would have it, is none other than the daughter of the town's fire and brimstone, anti-dancing preacher, Reverend Shaw Moore (John Lithgow). The film was one of several popular 1980s dance films, along with Flashdance and Breakin', and was acclaimed for its catchy soundtrack.
