Thatgamecompany has announced that their latest game, Flower will be released on February 12, 2009. The game is exclusive to the PS3 and can only be downloaded through the PlayStation Network Store.
Going with the flOw
Flower follows up thatgamecompany's previous release, flOw, which was heralded as being a great gaming innovation because of its lack of traditional gaming goals. The game got its start as a master's thesis on enhancing the psychological theory of flow in games and was originally a Flash-based game.
In flOw, players control an aquatic being who consumes other beings in order to grow and evolve. Released on the PS3 in 2007, the game received mix reviews, with many critics praising its breaking of traditional gaming conventions, but criticisizing its lack of depth. Despite the criticism, the game won a Game Developer's Choice Award and was nominated for an Interactive Achievement Award.Official Site: flOw
