Florida Southern College is an independent, co-ed school affiliated with the United Methodist Church and located in Lakeland, Florida. The school's athletic teams participate in the Sunshine State Conference.

Florida Southern College offers nearly 60 undergraduate degree programs for roughly 2,000 students each year. The schools of teaching, nursing and athletic management are accredited by their respective commissions.

The college was originally founded in 1883 in Orlando, Florida. It moved several times over the next four decades, including in 1922 to its current location in Lakeland. It was in 1935 that the school officially received the name of Florida Southern College.
