One thing we don't like about the new design is the chrome plastic trim on the sides of the unit. It looks good but you'll find your self continually wiping off fingerprint smudges with the soft, velvety pouch that ships with the product. We would have preferred some sort of brushed metal, or a brushed-metal look. Another minor ding: there's an HDMI output on the side for HDTV connections, but no bundled cable. That's not a huge deal, but Kodak, for instance, includes an HDMI cable with the Zx1, which retails for about $50 less.

Like the MinoHD, the UltraHD shoots 720p video at 30fps, H.264 compressed, and encoded as MPEG-4. The unit lacks a memory card slot, which is too bad, but its 8GB of internal memory allows you to record 2 hours of video. That should be ample recording capacity for most folks, but if you're on a vacation and shoot a lot of video, it would help to have a laptop along for the ride to offload your video as you run out of memory.http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/flip-ultrahd-black/4505-6500_7-33637213.html?tag=rnav

What better way to give you a look at Flip Video's new Ultra HD camcorder than by reviewing it on video... shot with the Ultra HD. The specs are simple: 720p / 30 FPS, 8GB of storage on-board, HDMI out, and pretty much nothing else. Still, a camera this cheap ($199.99) and this small definitely has its uses. Of course, you'll probably be distracted (like we were) by the bad, bad image stabilization issues. But don't just read about it -- take a look at the gallery below to scope out what the thing looks like, then watch the videos after the break to hear (and see) our thoughts, and catch the cam in some heavier -- shakier -- action. Needless to say, both videos are available in HD.http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/30/flip-video-ultra-hd-video-review/

One thing you can swap out is the battery. The original Flip Ultra relied on AA cells, so you could simply pop in new ones if you ran out of power when out and about. The Mino, on the other hand, traded this flexibility for the space saving afforded by a built-in rechargeable battery. The UltraHD takes a third route, still using AA cells but with a rechargeable pack included in the box. This is topped up every time you plug the unit in via its USB connection, and lasts over two hours. But if you run out of juice on the road, you can still just pop in some alkaline cells instead.http://www.trustedreviews.com/camcorders/review/2009/07/13/Flip-Video-UltraHD/p1
