Flip Flops are a backless sandal with a strap between the big and second toe. They are extremely popular around the world as a warm weather shoe and come in a variety of colors and designs. They are designed for men, women, and children. They also can be used as bathroom slippers and are called thongs too.
History of the Flip Flop
Flip Flops are a basic sandal that can be traced back to early Japan where women and men wore wooden soled sandals with a Y-shaped strap, also known as a thong sandal. While these sandals were more formal, versions of the flip flop have evolved throughout the years creating dressier versions of the sandal made of leather and suede and decorated with jewelry or beads as well as the more casual version today.
Foot Concerns
For several years, specialists have questioned whether the flip flop offers adequate foot support. While most believe the sandal to be of comfort, its lack of ankle support and soft sole may cause the foot to be prone to arch issues and possible tendinitis. To prevent these foot problems, look for a good quality flip flop that has a sturdy Y strap and sole and be sure to not wear them when excessive amounts of walking are required.
