What Is a Firewall?
Firewalls block or allow internet activity on your network. They are an important protection to use when browsing the internet with your computer. In addition to a software firewall installed on your computer, your router probably has a form of firewall as well for added security.
Manage Your Firewall
Windows 7 comes with a software firewall installed on it. To manage it:
Go to the Start menu.- Click on Control Panel.
- Go to System and Security.
- Click on Windows Firewall.
- Make sure your firewall is set to "On."
- If you want to allow certain programs through the firewall, click on "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall."
- Click "Change settings" and update information to allow or deny access through the firewall.
If you're not using Windows 7 but still have a Windows computer, you can use a third party software firewall. Sean suggests downloading the free firewall from ZoneAlarm.
