Fish Tacos are made the same way as traditional taco are made. When making fish tacos you can use either a deep fried corn tortilla, or a soft flour tortilla. Many types of fish can be used, and can be battered, deep fried, broiled, boiled or grilled. Cod is the number one fish of choice because of its mild taste and ability to hold together. However, other types of white fish or even salmon are also sometimes used.
- Fish tacos are popular at many Mexican-American restaurants and taquerias in the United States, with some eateries (such as Wahoo's Fish Taco specializing in the dish. Fried fish is most commonly seen in restaurants, although grilled fish is often used as well. Fish tacos may be made at home with just about any type of fish, and many toppings will work, although heavy flavors tend to mask the delicate taste of the fish.
Stuffing Variation
Fish tacos can be stuff or topped with cocktail sauce or tartar sauce in place of the traditional salsas and hot sauces. You can make a creamy, Mexican-style sauce by blending mayonnaise with salsa, as well. You can also replace the lettuce with cabbage. Try topping your fish tacos with diced tomatoes, chopped red onions and sliced jalapenos for heat.
