First Blood is a 1982 film directed by Ted Kotcheff. The film was loosely based on the novel First Blood by David Morrell. The film stars Sylvester Stallone as John Rambo, a former member of an elite United States Army Special Forces unit in the Vietnam War. First Blood was followed by Rambo: The First Blood Part II, which was released on May 22, 1985.
