The First Battle of Bull Run was the first major battle in the American Civil War fought near Manassas, Virginia on July 21, 1861.

- Union casualties and losses: 2,896 (406 deaths, 1,124 wounded 1,312 captured or missing)
- Confederate casualties and losses: 1, 982 (387 deaths, 1582 wounded 13 missing)
Legacy/Aftermath
- One major outcome from this battle was the battlefield confusion between the two flags. This led to the adoption of the Confederate Battle Flag, which eventually became the a popular symbol of the Confederacy and of the South in general.
- Colonel Francis S. Bartow was the first Confederate brigade commander to be killed in the Civil War
- P. G. T. Beauregard was considered the hero of the battle and was promoted that to full general in the Confederate Army
