Echoes of Time is the sequel to the Nintendo DS game, Ring of Fates, released in March 2008. A village girl is very ill with the mysterious "crystal sickness" and the game's 16-year old hero has to leave his home to find a cure. A scholar offers the cure in exchange for assistance with some dangerous research. The experiments go wrong and the village's crystal shatters, causing all of the villagers to disappear. Inevitably, it's up to the hero to recover the crystals.

The story is fairly straightforward and the main quest line consists of about 20 missions that will take about 15-20 hours to complete. There are also a variety of sidequests that add many hours of playtime. These are minor Fed Ex type quests that have players finding items for villagers or killing a specific number of mobs.

For the first time in the series, players can take their game online, connecting with buddies using friend codes or even adventuring with gamers worldwide.
